One person was hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash on US-75 in North Topeka

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – One person was taken to a local hospital after a three-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Highway US-75 in North Topeka, authorities said.

The rear-end collision was reported at 2:30 p.m. Sunday on NW US-75 northbound at Lower Silver Lake Road.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2022 Dodge Ram pickup truck, a 2014 Ford Fusion and a 2018 Toyota Rav4 SUV were traveling north on US-75 at the time of the collision.

Police said the Ford and Toyota slowed down to avoid traffic. The Dodge pickup, which was pulling a trailer, failed to slow down and struck the Ford, pushing it into the Toyota, police said.

The driver of the Dodge pickup, Robert L. Cooper, 73, of Scott City, was uninjured. Police said Cooper, who was alone in the truck, was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Ford, Ashley Adams, 20, of Topeka, was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Patrol officers said Adams was wearing a seatbelt.

There were two teenagers in the Ford, but no information was given about their condition.

The driver of the Toyota, Douglas L. Herbert, 42, of Overland Park, was uninjured. Police said Herbert was wearing his seat belt.

A passenger in the Toyota, Shannon L. Hopper, 50, of Grapeland, Texas, was also uninjured. Police said Hopper was wearing a seatbelt.

According to the patrol's online accident report, all three vehicles had to be towed from the scene of the accident.
