Fatal single-vehicle crash in Mercer County – Outlook for Mercer County

(19.8.24 hrs) Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Gray reports his office is investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred last night, August 18, 2024. Gray said a Mercer County Deputy was patrolling the area of ​​St. Rte 49 and Koch Rd in Liberty Township when he encountered a single vehicle accident at approximately 6:31 p.m.

The investigation revealed that a 2017 Jeep Sport SUV, driven by Jamie M. Teufel, 33, of Hamilton, Ohio, was traveling southbound on St. Rte 49 near Koch Rd when, for an unknown reason, she veered off center to the left and left the roadway. Teufel then drove several feet through the ditch on the east side before striking a culvert and the vehicle was thrown into the air. The vehicle continued traveling southbound before striking a driveway, causing the SUV to roll over several times and come to rest on the passenger side.

Lutherans Air was called to the scene and transported Teufel to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Teufel later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

This accident remains under investigation and has been forwarded to the Mercer County District Attorney's Office for review.
