A Duluth man has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for smuggling several kilograms of methamphetamine into the Atlanta metropolitan area.

On April 25, a federal court jury convicted 56-year-old Jorge Rodriguez-Martinez of conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to resell and possession of methamphetamine with intent to resell.

Officials say the allegations stem from an investigation that began in October 2020. Investigators say a source working with DEA agents called Rodriguez-Martinez to purchase several kilograms of methamphetamine.

Agents then followed Rodriguez-Martinez to an apartment complex in Dunwoody, where he met with a drug supplier and picked up the kilograms of illegal drugs.

The Georgia State Patrol later stopped Rodriguez-Martinez's truck and found approximately three kilograms of methamphetamine on the passenger floor of the vehicle.

“Methamphetamine traffickers pose a serious threat to our communities, selling these dangerous drugs with no regard for the lives they endanger,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan. “Thanks to the coordinated and tireless efforts of our federal and state partners, Rodriguez-Martinez will now be held accountable for his crimes.”

On Friday, a judge sentenced Rodriguez-Martinez to 10 years in prison for each count, to be served concurrently, plus four years of probation.
