NRL News: Woman in Latrell Mitchell photo threatens to leak ‘piquant’ information after white powder scandal

The woman in the photo “White powder” image that got Latrell Mitchell in trouble has threatened to leak “saucy” details about what was going on in the Dubbo motel at the time the photo was taken. There is no suggestion that Mitchell did anything wrong or that the white powder was an illegal substance, but the NRL has issued Mitchell with a warning for “bringing the game into disrepute” and Souths is reportedly demanding a conduct clause for him included in his $1.2 million contract.

It is still unclear who posted the picture, which was reportedly taken while Mitchell was doing community service in Dubbo recently. But the woman pictured alongside the Rabbitohs star, Amy Brown, has hit back after claiming she was accused of trying to ruin Mitchell's career by posting the image.

The woman confessed last week that she was the person in the photo, alongside Mitchell, after various allegations circulated about who took and distributed the image. But Ms Brown hit back on Facebook on Sunday night against suggestions that she was behind it, saying she was “sick of everyone making me out to be the bad guy.” Ms Brown also made a thinly veiled threat to leak more details about her time in the motel room.

“I didn't ruin anyone's career!” she posted on social media. “I think it's time to reveal every juicy detail that happened in that room. I'm so sick of everyone making me out to be the bad guy. I was just going on a drinking binge with my best friend (no regrets). I've been honest from the start and will continue to be. I have nothing to hide. Over all this bullshit!”

Ms Brown said the reason she came out as the woman in the photo in the first place was because of the allegations made against her and a need to tell her side of the story. “The reason I did it (confirmed her identity) is because everyone is accusing me of doing something wrong,” Brown wrote in response to a Facebook comment.

“My so called girlfriend posted a picture of me and it got into the wrong hands. I have every right to write this status but I'm still being criticized… I just went to a motel where my girlfriend was because she called me after a night of drinking. I didn't stay there for more than an hour and then left. Y'all are blaming the wrong person here.”

The drama surrounding Mitchell comes amid reports from veteran NRL journalist Phil Rothfield that the South Sydney board is ready for a showdown with the fullback this week. Rothfield claims Souths are fed up with the off-field controversy surrounding the fullback and will seek to insert a new conduct clause into his contract when he faces the club's board this week.

Mitchell has played just 11 games in 2024 due to injuries and suspensions and has been at the centre of various controversies this season. He was criticised for commenting on the Spencer Leniu-Ezra Mama racism case before it was heard by the NRL judiciary and faced criticism for a vulgar radio interview after a game against Brisbane for which he did not apologise.

This prompted NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo to sit down with the Souths star at the start of the season to remind him of the responsibilities and behaviour expected of a high-profile player. And following the recent 'White Powder' photo drama, Rothfield says the Souths board has officially had enough and could threaten to sever ties with the two-time championship winner if he doesn't back down.

“He needs to go before the board and explain exactly what happened,” Rothfield told Sky Sports radio of Mitchell's latest controversy. “But also the other behavioural issues, including the F-bomb tirade from Triple M, Spencer Leniu's social media history – all of that stuff. Souths is fed up. He's on $1.2 million a year and my understanding is they're going to tell him, 'We want a watertight guarantee that this is all going to stop.'

“To prevent that, they are prepared to go so far as to include conduct clauses in his contract. In other words, if he steps out of line and brings the game into disrepute like this photo does, then it's ta-ta (goodbye). I expect he will get one last chance, but his contract will be adjusted and if he is not happy with this new clause, they will say, 'It's all over.'”
