DC Council Member Trayon White Arrested on Federal Bribery Charges – NBC4 Washington

DC Council member Trayon White was arrested Sunday on federal bribery charges, according to new information released Monday by federal prosecutors.

White, who represents the 8th District, is accused of agreeing to accept $156,000 in cash in exchange for using his position to pressure employees of the DC Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement and the DC Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services to renew several DC contracts, prosecutors said.

White is scheduled to appear in court on Monday afternoon.

“The contracts in question were valued at $5.2 million and involved two companies providing violence intervention services in DC,” the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia said in a statement.

“As alleged, the $156,000 that White was willing to accept in exchange for using his official position to force the renewal of these contracts with certain companies amounted to three percent of the total contract value,” they continued.

“According to the complaint, White's agreement with a confidential human source (the owner of the companies) – including the source's payments to White of $35,000 in cash on four separate occasions (June 26, July 17, July 25, and August 9, 2024) and the source's presentation of a document to White detailing how White's three percent share was calculated based on those contracts – was captured on video.”

As News4 first reported, White was arrested on Sunday near his home in the Navy Yard area of southeast DC.

A video obtained by News4 shows agents outside White's apartment. The agents were apparently trying to gain access to White's car, a silver Tesla with DC Council plates.

White was first elected to represent the 8th District in 2016. In June, he won the Democratic primary for his third term.
