Trial against mother and boyfriend in case of death of toddler postponed

The trial was originally scheduled for Monday, but defense motions delayed the trial.

NEW ORLEANS – The family of a 2-year-old who investigators say was killed by his mother will have to wait even longer for the trial to begin.

Ezekiel Harry's mother and her boyfriend are charged with murder.

The trial was originally scheduled for Monday, but defense motions delayed the trial.

The mother and her boyfriend, Jermaine Robinson, both accused of killing the two-year-old boy, were scheduled to appear in court, but the defense in the case filed motions that delayed the trial.

A hearing on the Jones motion is scheduled for Tuesday and a hearing on the boyfriend motion is scheduled for Wednesday.

Jones reported her son missing – but according to investigators, she knew the truth – he was already dead.

The little boy's body was found in a travel bag that had been thrown into a garbage can.

An autopsy later revealed that Ezekiel had been beaten to death.

Jones and Robinson are charged with first-degree murder and could face the death penalty if convicted.

A year after Ezekiel's death, then-Governor John Bel Edwards signed “Ezekiel's Law,” which was intended to reform the way child abuse cases are handled in Louisiana.
