Woman allegedly stabbed man with carpet knife during a fight outside a Reading social club

A Reading woman was arrested after police said she stabbed a man with a box cutter during an altercation that began at a social club over the weekend.

Laurann L. Singleton, 34, of the 1200 block of Avenue D, was charged with aggravated and simple assault, possession of a murder weapon and disorderly conduct following the incident Sunday morning.

After her arraignment before District Judge Gail M. Greth at Reading Central Court, she was released on $25,000 bail.

According to court documents:

At around 6 a.m., police were called to the 1200 block of North Front Street for a report of a fight that had resulted in someone being stabbed. They found a man with a large cut on his left leg.

He told police he had been involved in an argument with another man at the Riverside Volunteer Beneficial Association, 1742 Pear St., half a block away.

His companion told him that she wanted to leave. Before they left the club, however, he got into another argument, this time with Singleton.

As he and Singleton were leaving the club, a fight broke out. Singleton grabbed a box cutter and swung it at the man, hitting him several times.

She fled but was later taken into custody.

It was not clear whether the victim was taken to a hospital.
