19-year-old man jailed after two killed in Central Broward crash, officials say

BROWARD COUNTY, Florida. – A 19-year-old has been officially jailed on serious charges following a fatal car crash near Fort Lauderdale.

Officials said Gavin Dorvil, of Lauderdale Lakes, sideswiped a Dodge Durango on Northwest Sixth Street near the unincorporated areas of Washington Park and Boulevard Gardens on Aug. 11, he said, while driving a white Tesla.

Both the driver, Lisa Jackson, and the passenger, Geraldine Francis, were killed and a child was seriously injured. The force of the impact also caused another car to overturn.

Several witnesses believe the Tesla was being pursued by officers from the Broward Sheriff's Office. BSO officials said they are still investigating whether it was being pursued by officers.

A few weeks earlier, Dorvil had also been arrested by police in Davie.

According to a police report, he fled a traffic stop, and when police arrested him, they found a stolen gun “between his buttocks.”

The teenager is now charged with two counts of negligent homicide and reckless driving causing serious bodily harm.
