Lufkin ISD substitute teacher accused of possession of marijuana on campus

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) – Lufkin ISD police arrested a substitute teacher Thursday for allegedly having marijuana on campus.

Quincy Jammal Childress, 36, of Diboll, is charged with possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone after his arrest Thursday by Lufkin ISD police.

The district issued a statement on the situation, saying Childress was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and was removed from contact with students before 8:30 a.m. District staff and police immediately began an investigation, they said, and Childress was eventually arrested.

The press release further states that district police seized two guns from Childress' vehicle during a search of the school parking lot.

“We are grateful to the staff who immediately recognized the incident and notified administration, and to our Lufkin ISD PD who quickly handled the situation,” the release said. “The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance and we will continue to investigate the incident.”

According to the Angelina County Jail website, Childress was released the same day on the judge's order.
