Chrystul Kizer sentenced to 11 years in prison for killing a man who “raped and sold her for sex when she was 16 years old”

A human trafficking survivor has been sentenced to more than ten years in prison for killing the man who allegedly sold her for sex as a teenager.

A judge in the US state of Wisconsin sentenced Chrystul Kizer on Monday to 11 years in prison plus five years of extended probation.

She pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in a Wisconsin court earlier this year, but her legal team had hoped for a lighter sentence given the circumstances of the killing.

Kizer met Randy Volar when she was 16 and he was 33. He allegedly subjected her to a series of assaults and sold her for sex online for over a year before he was killed.

Defense attorneys argued that the murder was a direct result of the suffering and fear Kizer felt as a result of Volar's actions, which would have allowed her to avoid serving an even longer pretrial detention period than she already has.

However, the judge argued that the defense had not presented enough evidence to link the alleged trafficking to the crime.

According to local Fox affiliate WITI, the maximum penalty for involuntary manslaughter in Wisconsin is 25 years in prison.

She will be granted a reduction of approximately two years of her prison sentence, in accordance with the time she has already served.
