Reckless biker must go back to prison after mocking officers

Officers have arrested a man wanted for reckless driving and driving without a license.

According to the Benton County Sheriff's Office, 40-year-old Herbert Clifford Jr. Girton, who they identified as “Herbie,” was arrested Sunday after an escapade that began early in the morning.

They say Girton showed up at the Benton County Jail around 2:30 a.m. and began fiddling with the intercom buttons at the main entrance and “hitting” the jail's security cameras while claiming to be “the owner of the facility.”

When an officer arrived, Girton decided he did not want to speak to them and sped off.

But his mischief didn't end there. Girton spotted a Richland Police cruiser taking someone to jail and decided to follow the officer before recklessly driving around the cruiser and speeding away.

Officers managed to catch up with Girton, this time near Columbia Center Boulevard and West Canal Drive, and attempt to stop him.

Instead, Girton sped off again, this time waving his middle finger at the officers.

Officials eventually found Girton later that day, were able to take him into custody and return him to the Benton County Jail – this time as an inmate.
