Brawl among foreigners leads to scuffle at fair

At 9 p.m. on Aug. 18, two officers on duty at the Arlington County Fair at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center responded to a report of a fight on the football field, Arlington police said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a private security company observed the two suspects in a physical altercation. One suspect was arrested without incident, while the other fled from an officer who responded to the call, police said.

The officer initiated a foot pursuit and arrested the second suspect. While he was arresting the suspect, a crowd formed and began throwing water bottles and other objects at the officers, police said.

Additional officers responded and cleared the soccer field of all visitors, police said.

The first suspect – 25-year-old Rick Chavez of Temple Hills – was arrested and charged with assault and obstruction of justice. The second suspect – 23-year-old Jordan Garcia-Viera of Sterling – was arrested and charged with assault.
