Madisonville man tries to escape the law, ends up in jail

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WFIE) – A 36-year-old Madisonville man is in jail on drug charges after attempting to flee from police Saturday afternoon.

This is according to a report from Madisonville Police, which states that their officers found the suspect, Jeffery S. Thompson, in a wooded area off North Main Street.

The officer told Thompson that there might be a warrant out for his arrest and that it needed to be checked.

According to the police report, Thompson began screaming that he did not have to go back to jail and ran away from police officers as they approached him.

According to police, Thompson jumped over obstacles and gates before officers caught up with him and brought him to the ground.

According to MPD, Thompson stiffened his arms and attempted to pull them in front of his body so officers could not handcuff him.

According to police, he screamed so loudly that people came out of a nearby restaurant to see if everything was okay.

Officers said they found a used needle in his right front pocket after his arrest.

Jeffery Thompson was arrested and booked into the Hopkins County Jail on charges of fleeing or eluding police, resisting arrest, purchase/possession of drug paraphernalia, and disorderly conduct.
