Accused murderer still at large, Sunbury police say | News

SUNBURY – A Northumberland man accused of shooting a 20-year-old Sunbury man outside the Northumberland County Courthouse last week has been on the run for four days, Sunbury police said.

Denarii Springs, 25, who was charged with murder on Friday, is wanted after Sunbury police accused him of shooting 20-year-old Dayveon Creel of Sunbury behind Weis Markets on Market Street around noon on Thursday, Police Chief Travis Bremigen said.

The shooting occurred moments after an attempted murder trial at the Northumberland County Courthouse, directly across the parking lot, was adjourned for a lunch break.

Police arrested Nassir Robinson of Sunbury and Carnel Shelborne of Nescopeck on Thursday night in connection with the murder. They are charged with manslaughter and conspiracy to commit murder, police said. Sunbury Police Chief Travis Bremigen said the two men blocked Creel from leaving a parking space in the parking lot on Thursday while Springs opened fire, hitting Creel in the chest and killing him.

Robinson and Shelborne were arraigned on Friday before Sunbury District Judge Rachel Wiest Benner without bail.

Springs is still at large, Bremigen said on Monday.

Bremigen declined further comment on the case, saying it was an “active investigation.”

Bremigen said he has continued to station more officers on the streets and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Bremigen said he would keep the public informed of any developments in the case as far as possible.

District Attorney Michael O'Donnell described the incident as gang-related and pointed out that anyone who helped Springs could be charged and prosecuted.

O'Donnell said Springs and Creel were both in the courtroom for the hearing on Thursday and Robinson had just finished testifying before Presiding Judge Paige Rosini, who was overseeing the case, called a lunch break.

At about 12:50 p.m., jurors were dismissed for lunch and some sat in Cameron Park, directly across from the courthouse, before police from across the valley flocked to the Weis Markets parking lot because of reports of a shooting.

Thursday's shooting was a retaliatory shooting in connection with the attempted murder trial of Franky Riche and Anthony Moultrie, which began Thursday in Sunbury, O'Donnell said.

Both are accused of shooting at a vehicle in June 2022 in retaliation for a murder a month earlier in Sunbury.

On May 19, 2022, Ajani Munsh-Ousha Uhuru shot and killed 30-year-old Kareem Jakes at the Penn Jersey Mart on Fourth Street in Sunbury before fleeing the scene. Uhuru was convicted of manslaughter earlier this summer.

Riche and Moultrie are accused of shooting a relative of Uhuru a month after the murder. The relative was a passenger in a vehicle that allegedly sped away when shots were fired near downtown Sunbury in June 2022, police said.

According to police, Moultrie, Riche and two other people were in a black SUV from which at least seven shots were fired at the vehicle carrying a relative of Uhuru.
