Adelanto, California man arrested in child sexual abuse investigation

An Adelanto man was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of sexually assaulting a young relative over a two-year period, authorities said.

Gerardo Romero Palestino, 62, was taken into custody early Saturday morning at a home at 18300 Montezuma Street, according to San Bernardino County sheriff's records and arrest records. He was arrested on suspicion of numerous child abuse offenses, including continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14.

The victim stated on Friday, August 16, that Palestino had sexually abused her for two years, the sheriff said in a written statement.

Gerardo Romero Palestino, 62, of Adelanto, was arrested on Saturday, August 24, 2024, by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department on suspicion of child sexual abuse.

In the course of the investigation, investigators were able to confirm the victim's statements, the statement said.

Palestino's bail was set at $500,000 pending his first court appearance.

According to the sheriff's statement, investigators have reason to believe there may be additional victims. Palestino's booking photo was shared on social media to provide possible leads for the ongoing investigation.
