Police identify victim in fatal e-scooter crash in Ogden | News, Sports, Jobs

OGDEN – Police have released the identity of a man who died Thursday afternoon as a result of his injuries sustained in an e-scooter accident.

Lt. Will Farr of the Ogden City Police Department identified the deceased as 76-year-old Eddie Clouse of Ogden. An online obituary said Clouse died Thursday at McKay-Dee Hospital.

According to an OPD press release, the fatal accident occurred earlier that day at approximately 1:16 p.m. while the victim was riding his private e-scooter near the 2200 block of Washington Boulevard.

As he was traveling north on Washington, a 33-year-old woman driving a northbound SUV “weaved” into the road to turn right from Washington onto East 22nd Street, the news release said.

“The driver of the SUV failed to see the man on the scooter and caused the man on the scooter to swerve, causing the man to crash the scooter,” the press release said.

He was later taken to hospital with “severe head trauma.”

Farr told the Standard-Examiner on Monday that Clouse was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. He added that the investigation is ongoing and delivered the following public safety message:

“Please drive carefully and watch for cyclists and/or scooters. Try to look twice before changing lanes or turning. When you look before changing lanes or turning, look with intention and not out of habit. Give yourself enough time so you don't have to rush to your destination.”

Farr clarified that these notes do not necessarily reflect the factors that contributed to this specific incident, but noted, “They are simply good driving practices that can help prevent incidents of this nature in the future.”
