Man arrested after crash on Gold Star Bridge in Groton that injured police officer – NBC Connecticut

A Connecticut man has been arrested in connection with an accident that seriously injured a police officer on the Gold Star Bridge in Groton last year.

State police said a driver attempted to reduce speed shortly after 3 p.m. on September 7, 2023, and collided with the rear of a stopped police vehicle that was traveling with its blue lights on.

At the time of the accident, the police officer was working overtime at a construction site.

According to police, the driver who hit the police vehicle skidded and collided with two other vehicles.

The police officer suffered a broken arm, back and neck pain, and tingling in his legs and feet, authorities said in a report. He later underwent surgery.

According to police, the driver turned himself in on Monday morning. He is accused of endangering a highway worker, reckless driving, inattentive driving, second-degree assault and other charges.

He was held on $50,000 bail. The accident remains under investigation.
