Justin Herbert of the Chargers seen at training for the first time since his injury

The Los Angeles Chargers had a bit of a scare when starting quarterback Justin Herbert suffered a plantar fascia injury to his right foot, requiring him to wear a walking boot for a few weeks and has yet to report for preseason practice.

He hasn't trained since his injury either, but that changed on Monday. Herbert was seen training for the first time since July. Insider Daniel Popper posted a video of Herbert training on social media.

Herbert was always on track to play in Week 1 of the regular season, but this is another good sign for his overall status. If he can get a few weeks of practice in before the real games start, it could help the Chargers tremendously in terms of chemistry.

Herbert may need some time to fully adjust to the system, especially after his injury, but he has developed into one of the better signal-callers in the NFL for good reason.

His ability to adapt to different playing styles and systems has been impressive over the years. Without Herbert, the Chargers quarterback's play in the preseason was pretty abysmal.

Substitute Easton Stick's performance has not been up to par, which suggests a change is in order. Having Herbert back on the field should help in many ways, as he may be able to show Stick what he is doing wrong in games.

Herbert's health is paramount for the Chargers to have a successful first season under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. The Bolts rely heavily on him in games and without him, they are essentially lost.

Harbaugh will rely on Herbert to lead the new offensive system he and offensive coordinator Greg Roman have implemented. His ability to throw the ball at high speed should help the Bolts open up the running game.

The fear Herbert instills in opposing defenses alone should open up running lanes as teams have to figure out how to counter this offense. Harbaugh-led teams usually have a strong offense, and this version of the Chargers should be no exception.

The Bolts open the season at home against the Las Vegas Raiders on September 8. It will be a good first test for this group, potentially culminating in a division win if they emerge victorious.
