“The best is yet to come” – Aung La N Sang promises a thriller against the undefeated Shamil Erdogan in Denver

Former two-weight ONE MMA World Champion Aung La N Sang is planning the best performance of his illustrious career on September 6 at ONE 168: Denver.

This evening, “The Burmese Python” will face undefeated Dagestani wrestler Shamil Erdogan in an exciting middleweight MMA showdown at the Ball Arena that could determine the division’s next top challenger.

The 39-year-old has long been considered one of the organization's biggest superstars and most dangerous knockout fighters and has spent the last decade competing under the ONE spotlight.

His showdown against Erdogan will be his 20th appearance in the world's largest combat sports organization, and he promises to deliver a thriller in Denver:

Aung La N Sang told onefc.com:

“Ten years, 20 fights, man. Give my name some respect. But I'm excited, man. The best is yet to come, and I promise you I'm not just saying that. The best is yet to come, and I'm going to put on a banger.”

The former ONE world champion faces a tough test.

Erdogan is a world-class wrestler who has been dominant in his MMA career so far and is possibly the strongest takedown artist in his division.

But although Aung La respects his opponent’s outstanding skills, he is ready to strike back as soon as the door of the circle closes:

“I think he will dictate where the fight will take place, but we will fight. And it will be a tough fight. It will be a tough three-round fight, and I will try to break his face.”

In fact, the “Burmese Python” thrives in fierce knockdown fights, often achieving a KO or submission after both he and his opponent have exchanged their best punches.

In this sense, he hopes to drag Erdogan into deep waters and eliminate him late:

“I want it to be a tough, tough fight. I want to feel every second of it. I want to feel the pain and everything. I want it to be a painful three-round fight where I beat him in the third round.”

Aung La N Sang next targets Anatoly Malychin

If Aung La N Sang can defeat Shamil Erdogan, he will win his fourth fight in a row and potentially become the next challenger to reigning ONE MMA middleweight world champion Anatoly “Sladkiy” Malykhin.

The Myanmar legend is certainly not thinking beyond ONE 168: Denver, but is well aware that a win could earn him a date with the undefeated king of three divisions:

“People like [Erdogan]You know, undefeated Russians – they're good hammers. He's not the last undefeated Russian I want to fight either.”

Now looking forward to his 43rd fight in his incredible career, Aung La N Sang is happy to secure a shot at the ONE Middleweight MMA World Title he once held.

However, his chance of winning gold depends entirely on his performance against Erdogan.

He added:

“The champion with the longest reign, most title defenses and four consecutive wins should get the title. [shot]but actually nothing is more important than Shamil.

“We can talk all we want, but nothing really matters if I don't do the work, and that's hard work. It's not easy work.”
