Two charged with murder of 'General Hospital' actor

In the investigation into the death of “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor, two suspects have been charged with murder. Two other people have been arrested in connection with the murder.

The charges were announced by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office on Monday during a press conference at the Los Angeles Hall of Justice, called by Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón and Acting Police Chief Dominic Choi, local outlets Fox LA and CBS News reported.

The suspects charged with murder are Robert Barceleau and Sergio Estrada, both 18 years old. Barceleau is charged with special circumstances of killing during a robbery and faces a sentence of life in prison without parole. Both Barceleau and Estrada are also charged with attempted robbery and grand theft with a firearm.

Two other suspects remain in custody facing lesser charges. Leonel Gutierrez, 18, was charged with attempted robbery and grand theft by embezzlement, both counts of being armed. Frank Olano, 22, is charged with aiding and abetting murder, receiving stolen goods and three counts of illegal possession of a firearm.

Wactor was killed in downtown Los Angeles on May 25 after he burst in on a suspected catalytic converter theft attempt. Last week, the Los Angeles Times reported that at least three suspects in connection with the shooting were served search warrants and taken into custody. The suspects were reportedly identified after authorities examined fingerprints on the car jack used to steal Wactor's catalytic converter.

Barceleau, Estrada and Gutierrez remain in custody on $2 million bail each, as does Olano, who must post $1 million bail.

After Wactor's death, his godmother, Michaelle Kinard, set up a GoFundMe page that raised over $50,000 within 24 hours. The fund now stands at just over $144,000.

“On May 25th, my dearest and best friend's son was murdered. He was the victim of a senseless crime,” Kinard wrote on the GoFundMe page. “Johnny Wactor (known to many as Brando Corbin from 'General Hospital') was living his dream in LA. Early Saturday morning, Johnny was leaving his evening job with a co-worker when they encountered three guys trying to steal his catalytic converter. He thought he was getting towed and said, 'Am I getting towed?' The person stood up wearing a mask, said nothing and shot him.”
