Suspect charged in Fells Point assault case

A suspect was arrested and charged with manslaughter in the death of a 74-year-old Fells Point man.

David Philpot was attacked in the 1700 block of Eastern Avenue around 2:45 p.m. Saturday and was taken to a hospital with serious bodily harm, Baltimore police said. He died at the hospital Sunday morning.

On Monday, police said the coroner had ruled Philpot's death a homicide but did not specify the cause of death. The suspect, 43-year-old Timothy Clinedinst, was arrested in Dundalk on Monday, police said.

Doug Yeakey, co-owner of EC Pops on South Broadway Street, where Philpot's wife worked since 2018, remembered him as a friend to the people and dogs of Fells Point.

“Dave was probably the kindest, gentlest gentleman I've ever met,” Yeakey said. “There wasn't a single person Dave ever talked about that he didn't have something in common with. Anyone could talk to him. He was just such an approachable person.”

Yeakey said friends have set up a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses.
