On August 5, officers were called to a home on Hampton Drive in Sangaree for a report of a stolen golf cart beeping at a residence down the street.

When officers knocked on the door of the house, where a golf cart was parked in the yard, a man later identified as Yates ran out the back door, said sheriff's office spokeswoman Cpl. Carli Drayton.

Officers called the Berkeley County Sheriff's canine unit, and they found Yates in another backyard.

They conducted a search and found a debit card and three other identification cards that did not belong to him.

Drayton said additional fees are possible.
