Former NFL Basketball player Gosder Cherilus was arrested Sunday after he allegedly punched a man and urinated on another passenger while drunk during an international flight, Massachusetts State Police said Monday.

Cherilus, 40, of Wakefield near Boston, was scheduled to depart Boston for Dublin, Ireland, from Logan International Airport on Sunday.

According to a police report, Cherilus appeared to be drunk before the Delta flight took off and allegedly argued with flight crew about his seat.

An hour into the flight, Cherilus allegedly urinated on an elderly passenger and then hit another passenger before sitting in his seat and passing out, the report said.

The flight returned to the airport, where police ordered Cherilus to get off. The former football player “became angry and uncooperative,” police said.

He was arrested shortly afterwards.

According to the Boston Globe, Cherilus was arraigned in East Boston District Court on Monday.

“What you have done, as alleged, is quite egregious,” Judge Debra A. DelVecchio told Cherilus.

Cherilus apologizes

Cherilus posted an apology on his X account on Monday. He apologized to the passengers and flight crew and said he had taken sleeping medication that he does not normally take and that this was the reason for his behavior.

Delta answers

In a statement on Monday, Delta confirmed that there was an “unruly customer” on the flight and that the other passengers were later flown to Dublin. However, the airline did not disclose how long the flight was delayed.

“Delta does not tolerate any illegal behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement in this regard,” the company said in a statement. “We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel.”
