Biden passes the torch to Harris and says reports he is ‘angry’ are ‘not true’

president Joe Biden became emotional as he verbally passed the torch to the Vice President Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night, insisting that all reports that he was “angry” about his resignation were “not true” and that he had acted out of love for his country.

The DNC program was about an hour late when First Daughter Ashley Biden introduced her father. Biden took the stage around 10:30 p.m. CT, hugged his daughter, and wiped away tears with a tissue before beginning his speech.

Harris gave a brief surprise speech earlier in the evening and received enthusiastic applause from the crowd at the United Center in Chicago. The former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton There were also loud reactions in the arena. The audience broke out into chants of “Lock him up!” as they cheered the former president Donald Trump's 34 convictions for capital crimes.

Towards the end of his speech, Biden stopped talking about the legacy of the Biden-Harris administration and instead spoke about his reasons for dropping out of the race.

“Folks, I have five months left as president,” Biden said. “I have a lot of work to do. I intend to get it done. It has been the honor of my life to serve you as president.”

“I love the job, but I love my country even more,” he said. “I love my country even more.”

“And all this talk about how angry I am at all the people who said I should resign – that's not true,” he insisted as chants of “We love Joe!” filled the arena.

“I love my country more and we must preserve our democracy,” Biden continued. “In 2024, we need you as voters. We need you to keep the Senate, to win back the House of Representatives and most of all, we need you to beat Donald Trump! And to elect Kamala and Tim, President and Vice President of the United States of America!”
