18-year-old from Redmond arrested on DUI and other charges after driving stolen SUV through fences and into carport

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) — An 18-year-old Redmond resident drove a stolen SUV through two fences and a carport and then into a detached tool shed in southwest Redmond early Sunday morning and was arrested on drunken driving and other offenses, police said.

Officers responded to the reported crash involving a 2017 Chevy Suburban in the 3100 block of SW Volcano Avenue just before 5 a.m., Lt. Eric Beckwith said. The SUV had been reported stolen the previous evening in a Redmond neighborhood, he said.

The driver crashed through two residential fences and a carport, then crashed into a detached tool shed, but the house on the property was not struck or damaged. Beckwith said the residents were asleep and uninjured.

Officers investigating the crash determined the driver was impaired and arrested him on several charges. He was booked into the Deschutes County Jail on charges of driving while under the influence, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal damage to property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

As of Monday evening, no charges had been filed. NewsChannel 21's policy is not to release the names of those arrested until charges have been filed.
