New trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection released, introducing the first game to give the series its full title

After years of inactivity on home consoles, Marvel vs. Capcom is back with the classics that fans have been eagerly awaiting, reviving the glory of the past and giving a glimpse of what the future may bring.

A new trailer for the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics has just been released, focusing on the first game, giving the franchise its full name as well as some interesting gameplay changes.

“In Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes, a special partner will join your team of two to assist you in battle,” says the official description of the trailer.

“The new Variable Cross system allows you to attack simultaneously with a tag team partner and use unlimited Hyper Combos.”

Interestingly, the trailer calls this Marvel and Capcom's “third fighting game project,” which isn't entirely true unless they're specifically talking about versus titles.

We've already gotten trailers for the first two X-Men games: Children of the Atom and Marvel Super Heroes, but two of the subsequent titles will apparently be skipped.

X-Men vs. Street Fighter was first released in 1996, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter came out in 1997, and then in 1998 came the first Marvel vs. Capcom.

The first two actual Versus games are part of the MvC collection, so we're not sure why they moved straight to Clash of Super Heroes now.

This game opened the doors for Capcom to include characters outside of Street Fighter for the first time, such as Morrigan, Strider Hiryu, Captain Commando, Mega Man and Jin Saotome.

The roster was technically further expanded by adding unique assist characters to the 2v2 gameplay from previous Versus entries, which continued to feature non-playable heroes and villains, including Thor, Magneto, Anita, Arthur, and others, for a total of 20 special partners available.

We also recently learned from the original designer of the Marvel fighting games why the early titles lacked alternate color options, but this was fixed by the time MvC was actually released.

There is no official release date for the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection yet, but it may have leaked last week.
