Man arrested in connection with multiple church break-ins in Fairfax County

Police say a suspect has been arrested in connection with several church break-ins in Fairfax County.

According to a police report, on August 5, a suspect entered a church on Little River Turnpike in Annandale and attempted to steal property. After investigating the incident, authorities identified 56-year-old Steven Hilder as the suspect.

A search warrant was later issued for Hilder's home in Loudoun County. Investigators were able to find additional evidence linking Hilder to several other church break-ins throughout the county.

Police believe Hilder is connected to seven church break-ins dating back to April.

  • April 11, 2024 – 4900 block of Twinbrook Road in Burke, Virginia
  • April 11, 2024 – 7200 block of Ox Road in Fairfax Station, Virginia
  • June 14, 2024 – 13000 block of Franklin Farm Road in Chantilly, Virginia
  • July 16, 2024 – 10000 block of Coffer Woods Road in Burke, Virginia
  • August 1, 2024 – 8900 block of Little River Turnpike in Annandale, Virginia
  • August 5, 2024 – 8200 block of Little River Turnpike in Annandale, Virginia
  • August 12, 2024 – 2700 block of Hunter Mill Road in Oakton, Virginia

Hilder was arrested on August 13 and charged with five counts of burglary, two counts of grand larceny and petty theft. He is being held without bail at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
