Bundesliga 2024–25: Bayern’s Stanisic out for “several weeks” due to knee injury

FC Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic will be out for “several weeks” due to a knee injury sustained in training, the club announced on Tuesday.

Stanisic suffered a “torn lateral ligament in his right knee” during training on Monday and will undergo surgery, FC Bayern said in a statement.

The 24-year-old returned to Bayern this summer after a season-long loan at Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said on Tuesday on the club's own TV channel that Stanisic, who played 20 international matches for Croatia, “will unfortunately be missing in the next few weeks.”

Bayern, which failed to win a title last season for the first time in eleven years, already has a weak defense.

New centre-back Hiroki Ito will miss the first few weeks of the season due to a foot injury, while fellow centre-back Matthijs de Ligt was sold to Manchester United in early August.

FC Bayern opens the 2024/25 season away in Wolfsburg on Sunday.
