Thomas Lane could be released on Tuesday

One of the four Minneapolis police officers convicted of the murder of George Floyd is scheduled to be released from federal prison on Tuesday.

Thomas Lane, 41, was found guilty of violating Floyd's civil rights and sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

He was also found guilty of aiding and abetting manslaughter.

That state prison sentence expires in one year, but court records show Lane is eligible for early parole.

His sentence in federal court ended in February, but he remained in custody in Littleton, Colorado.

Lane was one of three police officers accused of failing to intervene when his former colleague Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck for about nine minutes.

Chauvin is serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison, while Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thau received shorter sentences.

Lane would be the first former police officer to be released from prison.
