Dutch tomato prices in June 2024 slightly lower than in 2023

Dutch tomato prices were 30%, 50% and even 81% higher in June compared to a year ago, according to the latest market figures from the European Commission. The Commission's Tomato Dashboard provides a monthly overview of tomato prices.

Compared to June 2023, this year's prices are slightly lower, although the differences are minimal. Loose round tomatoes yielded 1% less in the Netherlands than in the same month last year. Vine tomatoes saw a 4% decrease, while cherry and specialty tomatoes fell by 3%.

Overall, EU tomato prices are disappointing, as the figures on the tomato dashboard show. At 1.09 euros per kilo, the price is 10 cents below the five-year average and 38 cents below the peak year of 2023.

In Spain, Italy and France, prices fell below the five-year average in June. Spanish round tomatoes were 3% cheaper and French cherry and speciality tomatoes recorded a 31% drop compared to average prices.
