Trial begins for three girls accused of murdering a 64-year-old Washington man

Further details are expected to emerge on Tuesday during the trial of the three young girls who are accused of beating an elderly man to death in Washington DC.

FOX 5's Stephanie Ramirez follows the hearing in Washington, D.C. Supreme Court The case is complex and disturbing, involving five girls who were arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

The fatal attack occurred on October 17, 2023. The medical examiner classified the death of 64-year-old Reggie Brown as a homicide due to blunt force trauma, believing he was randomly attacked.

Brown, who suffered from numerous disabilities and was weakened by his battle with cancer, encountered the group of girls around 1 a.m. on his way to his home in Northwest DC near Georgia Avenue and Rittenhouse Street in Northwest Washington.

The first three suspects were arrested about five months after Brown's death. Their trial is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. County law prohibits young suspects from being charged as adults.

Two other girls, ages 13 and 15, were charged in the murder last month.
