Owner of the property nowhere to be found

Gunfire erupted in Birmingham's College Hills neighborhood. The shooting occurred at an Airbnb around 3 a.m. on Monday, August 12. Several homes were damaged and a car was destroyed. We immediately removed a guest account when this incident was reported to us, are supporting the host, and stand ready to assist Birmingham Police with their further investigation. Parties are prohibited on Airbnb and we continually invest in measures to enforce this policy and prevent isolated incidents.” The home on the Airbnb website was listed as a host with the name Jabari, but the property is owned by a company called Infinity Investments. Phone numbers for the company were unavailable. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident and Childress says the violence needs to stop. “Just be realistic; there is nothing so important or so infuriating that you want to endanger someone else’s life; it could be your mother, it could be your grandmother,” Childress said. Childress says the owner of the property has reached out to those affected to potentially reimburse them for the damages.

Below is a statement from an Airbnb spokesperson sent to WVTM 13 News on Monday, August 19:

The Airbnb website lists a host named Jabari for the house, but the property is owned by a company called Infinity Investments.

The company's phone numbers were out of service.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident and Childress says the violence must stop.

“Be realistic. There is nothing so important or so angry that you would want to endanger another person's life. It could be your mother or your grandmother,” Childress said.

Police confirmed the incident but declined to release the report.

WVTM has also reached out to the city to speak with the council member who represents College Hills but has not heard back. Childress says the property owner has reached out to those affected to potentially reimburse them for the damage.
