Traffic stop leads to drug charges against Bellefontaine resident – Peak of Ohio

On Friday evening, a routine traffic stop resulted in drug charges against a Bellefontaine man. Just before 9 p.m., a patrol officer observed a silver Mitsubishi traveling south on Plumvalley Street. The officer noticed the vehicle's license plate was obscured by dirt, but was later identified.

The vehicle failed to stop properly at the intersection of Plumvalley Street and South Troy Road, which prompted the officer to stop the vehicle on South Troy Road at West Patterson Avenue. The driver, identified as Scott James, was asked for his identification. James stated he did not have it on him, but provided his social security number. He also mentioned that he was headed to “Clark” but missed his turn.

A check revealed that James' license was suspended and there was a warrant for his arrest. The officer arrested James and handcuffed him. While searching James' vehicle with his consent, officers discovered a crack pipe in the center console. James admitted that the pipe was his.

James was taken to the Logan County Jail. He was charged with driving while license suspended and summonsed for possession of drug paraphernalia. James is scheduled to appear in Bellefontaine Municipal Court on Wednesday.

The crack pipe was seized as evidence and the vehicle was picked up by its registered owner.
