Charges against man from Wall who allegedly killed his girlfriend with a machete

The man is Alex J. Williams, 25, of Wall. He is accused of first-degree murder, second-degree child endangerment and illegal weapon offenses (machete). A Monmouth County grand jury indicted Williams on Monday.

He is accused of killing his girlfriend with a machete in a residential parking lot in May while the woman's three-year-old daughter sat nearby in her mother's car.

On Thursday, May 23, Wall police were called to the parking lot of the Glen Oaks apartment complex at 9:22 a.m. There they found the woman sitting on the ground, moaning and leaning against a black Honda Accord.

She had multiple cuts on her face and her left arm was nearly severed above the wrist, according to an affidavit previously obtained by Patch. Authorities also found a machete nearby.

The woman's young daughter was sitting in a black 2019 Kia Optima parked nearby during the incident, police said.

The woman, whose name was never released, was taken to the trauma center of a nearby hospital but died there seven days later, on May 30.

According to police, it was Williams himself who called 911: Williams called 911 and said he had just killed “his girl” and was near Aspen Circle.

“I will follow orders,” he said, according to the affidavit. “Just come and pick me up.”

Another woman called 911 to report seeing a man attacking a woman while yelling, “You cheated on me, you cheated on me, you —, you cheated on me,” the affidavit states.

The witness, who heard the commotion from her apartment, told police she thought the man had hit the victim with a baseball bat. The witness called her boyfriend, who went to check on the woman and found her leaning against a car, mumbling something.

He ran to the manager's office for help while the witness called 911, the affidavit said.

The witness told police she saw a man she described as African-American, about 6 feet tall with short hair, running toward the residence, but she was unsure if he went inside. Her boyfriend told police he saw the man at a bank.

While paramedics were assisting the woman, Wall Police Sergeant Ed Lister found a man matching the witness's description sitting on a bench and asked him if he had just had an argument with his girlfriend.

The man told the officer he “caught her cheating,” the affidavit states. He claimed the woman had two cell phones and reiterated that he caught her cheating. Williams told police he had been dating the woman for seven months and said he suspected she had been cheating on him for a long time.

While Williams did not admit to intentionally stabbing the victim, he did admit to making the 911 call and reiterated his belief that she was cheating on him, the affidavit said.

At that point, Williams was arrested and has been in the Monmouth County Jail ever since.

It wasn't the first time Williams was accused of domestic violence against the woman he allegedly killed: Police were called to the woman's home in February of this year, where the victim said Williams trashed her house, stole her phone and prevented her from leaving the house or calling 911 during the argument. Police said they saw clear signs of damage throughout the house and scratches on the victim's arms and hands.
