Federal weapons case against NBA YoungBoy moved to Utah after guilty plea

NBA YoungBoy's gun trial has been moved to a federal court in Utah after the controversial rapper indicated he would plead guilty.

The case was originally scheduled to be heard in Louisiana, but after YoungBoy (real name Kentrell Gaulden) agreed in writing to plead guilty to weapons possession, the court moved the case to Utah, where the rapper faces separate drug charges.

YoungBoy is already in prison for these charges, and faces up to 10 years in prison for the weapons charge as he is already a convicted felon. However, his guilty plea is likely to reduce the length of his prison sentence.

The gun possession case dates back to 2020, when YoungBoy was caught with a gun while filming a music video in his hometown of Baton Rouge.

According to court documents obtained by HipHopDXThe 24-year-old was accused of possessing a .45 caliber Glock pistol and a Masterpiece Arms 9mm weapon with a Magpul “RVG Vertical Grip” attached.

NBA YoungBoy was arrested earlier this year in connection with a drug fraud ring in Utah.

The alleged scheme worked as follows, according to the affidavit: “A suspect requests a prescription, impersonates a real doctor, and uses a false patient name and birthday, all for promethazine with codeine. Some time after the prescriptions are dispensed, they are filled and picked up by [YoungBoy and/or people referred to as ‘Known Associates’ 1 and 2].”

The rapper is said to have even posed as a doctor during the plot, but aroused suspicion when he used the word “axed” instead of “asked.”

NBA YoungBoy court hearing flooded by Zoom supporters: “Free YB!”

YoungBoy was previously charged with 63 counts of identity fraud, forgery, obtaining a prescription by false pretenses, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, repeated unlawful activity and possession of a controlled substance.

The controversial rapper was later charged with additional charges, including possession of a firearm by a person with a warrant and two counts of illegally obtaining prescription drugs, KUTV reported.

YoungBoy was already under house arrest at the time of the charges; in the weapons case mentioned above, the rapper has been locked up in his Utah home since 2021.
