The job as football coach at Michigan State University is one of the best in the country

Coach Jonathan Smith took over Michigan State's football program after turning Oregon State around in six years.

He's aiming for a similar turnaround at Michigan State over the next two seasons, and he's already started working on it. Smith leads a football program that was once regularly in the national spotlight, and he hopes to return that to normalcy.

College Football Report recently released a list of the top head coaching jobs in college football for this season. Although Michigan State has had an eventful offseason and heads into the upcoming season with many unknowns, College Football Report still ranks Michigan State's head coaching position as one of the top 25 in the country, coming in at number 24.

Nearly half of the top coaching positions in College Football Report's rankings came from the Big Ten, with Ohio State holding the top spot, ranked as the best head coach in the country, followed by USC in sixth place.

Oregon and Michigan finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Penn State was ranked 14th in the country and Nebraska was 19th. UCLA was 21st, Washington was 22nd, and Michigan State was the ninth-best Big Ten head coach.

Smith has assembled a respectable roster for Michigan State for the upcoming season and has begun to establish the ideals and plans for the team for the upcoming season. However, until they step on the field, the final product will remain a mystery to Michigan State fans and the rest of college football.
