Juventus and USMNT winger Tim Weah suffers thigh injury in Serie A opener

USMNT striker Tim Weah will be sidelined for a while after suffering a thigh injury in Juventus' 3-0 win over Como on Monday night.

The 24-year-old sustained the injury before scoring his first goal for the club in first-half stoppage time.

The goal doubled Juventus' lead after Belgian striker Samuel Nbangula had opened the scoring for the hosts.

Weah was subsequently substituted at half-time and replaced by Nicola Savona.

Juventus said on Tuesday that the American had suffered a minor thigh injury to his right leg. He will be examined again in 10 days, at which point more details on his recovery will be available.

If Weah is out for an extended period of time due to injury, he could miss the USMNT's upcoming games against Canada and New Zealand on September 7 and 11, respectively.

Defender Andrea Cambiasso scored a third goal in injury time to ensure a winning start for new head coach Thiago Motta as head coach of Juventus.

Juventus will next be in action on Monday evening in Verona.

Weah joined Juve from Lille last summer and made 30 Serie A appearances and one assist in his debut season in Italy.

He previously won the Ligue 1 title with the club in 2021.

The attacker has scored six goals in 41 appearances for his country, but his participation in the USMNT's Copa America was limited to just two games after he was sent off 18 minutes into the 2-1 loss to Panama.

He was suspended for the final group match as the hosts were eliminated after a 1-0 defeat to Uruguay.
