Knox County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Arrested for DUI

A Knox County jail guard was arrested on August 16 and charged with drunken driving and resisting arrest after refusing to exit his car following a stop. He has since resigned.

Charles Miller, a lieutenant with the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility, was stopped by Vonore police and a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer shortly after noon on U.S. Highway 411. Officers said they observed him speeding and swerving, according to a report from Trooper Brian Millsaps.

The officer smelled alcohol coming from the Chevrolet Sonic, the report said. Miller's speech was slurred, his eyes were watery and he had an open Lime-a-Rita can in his cup holder, Millsaps wrote. Miller refused a breathalyzer test.
