Roseville man charged after bar fight in Center Line

(WWJ) – A Roseville man has been charged in connection with a bar fight in Macomb County last weekend that left one man hospitalized.

Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido announced Tuesday that 48-year-old Joel Anthony Martinez was charged with aggravated assault and disturbing the peace.

The charges stem from a fight on Saturday, August 17, at the Te Roma Bar in Center Line, Van Dyke near 10 Mile Road.

That night, prosecutors said, Martinez was “harassing” patrons at the bar. He allegedly punched a 50-year-old man, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head on the concrete.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the victim was still in intensive care on Tuesday. He is also said to have hit a second man.

The authorities have not provided any information about the further circumstances of the incident, including the events leading up to the alleged beating.

Bail was set at $5,000 cash/surety. Upon release, Martinez was ordered not to have any contact with the victims or witnesses, nor was he permitted to enter the Te Roma bar or have any contact with the bar.

Martinez would also have to wear an alcohol bracelet.

“The defendant's actions during this alleged bar fight were reckless and dangerous and caused significant harm to the victim. We are committed to holding the defendant accountable for this allegedly violent conduct and ensuring justice is served for the victim,” Lucido said, according to a press release.

His next court date has not yet been set.
