22-year-old Henrico woman dies in West End car crash

Henrico police have identified the woman killed in a West End crash on August 19 as 22-year-old Retika Haider of Henrico. The crash also sent an elementary school-aged boy to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The accident was reported shortly after 5 p.m. Monday in the 4000 block of Wistar Road. A man driving the BMW in which Haider and the boy were riding lost control, skidded and crossed the center line, according to police. The car was then struck by an Audi traveling eastbound.

Family members who were nearby took Haider, the boy and the driver to the hospital, where Haider later died. Police said alcohol and drugs did not appear to have played a role in the accident.
