Oakland County doctor charged with ‘horrific’ sexual abuse

PONTIAC, Mich. – A doctor from the Detroit metropolitan area has been accused of crimes against patients, including children.

Oumair Aejaz is accused of installing hidden cameras in dressing rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms, closets, hospital rooms and more to record people changing clothes.

At a press conference on Tuesday, August 20, both the Oakland County Sheriff and District Attorney said it was one of the worst cases they had ever worked. Sheriff Mike Bouchard said he could not estimate the number of victims “because there are so many” and that Aejaz “definitely sexually assaulted people.”

The crimes reportedly went on for at least six years.

Aejaz reportedly worked as a contract doctor who worked primarily at Ascension Genesys and Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, but he could have treated patients elsewhere. Cameras were also reportedly installed at the Goldfish Swim School in Rochester.

The hospitals and the Goldfish Center have cooperated in the investigation.

The investigation into Aejaz began when his wife informed authorities on August 7. A search warrant seized computers and electronic devices in his home, and one hard drive alone reportedly contained around 13,000 videos.

A video was allegedly found showing Aejaz sexually assaulting a seemingly unconscious woman in a hospital. It is allegedly not the only video of him doing this.

Bouchard said it could take six months to go through all the evidence found so far, and he believes there could be more. He added the sheriff's office may need to form a task force depending on how large the investigation becomes.

The victims known so far are between 2 years old and adults.

“The victims are so widespread and the perversion so great that we are still trying to comprehend it,” Bouchard said. “There are some very sick people in the world.”

Aejaz reportedly completed his residency at Sinai Grace Hospital and moved to Alabama for several years before returning to Michigan. It is believed that he may have committed crimes in Alabama as well.

An email address has been set up for people who believe they are victims. It can be reached here.

Aejaz's bail was set at $2 million.
