Man arrested for possession of weapons after incident at homeless camp in Nashua

NASHUA, NH — A man has been accused of attacking another man at a Nashua homeless encampment on Aug. 10, breaking several of his bones, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to the encampment near Pine Street Extension on a report of an assault with a weapon. The victim, a man in his mid-50s, suffered multiple injuries, including several broken bones, said Sergeant John Cinelli, Nashua Police Department spokesman and communications director.

“The victim,” he said, “was transported to a local hospital where he received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.”

Investigators worked the case and interviewed the victim, who accused 41-year-old Eric Baker, of no fixed address in Nashua, of hitting him. Other witnesses also identified him as a suspect. Cinelli said investigators also obtained surveillance video footage that identified Baker as a suspect.

A warrant was issued for Baker's arrest for second-degree aggravated assault and use of a deadly weapon and he was arrested on August 16.

“When Baker was found by officers,” Cinelli said, “he ran from them to avoid arrest. Baker was additionally charged with resisting arrest.”

Baker was charged and held on $500 bail. His arraignment was scheduled for Monday.

According to Superior Court records, Baker was charged with two counts of drug possession in Nashua in September 2005. He pleaded guilty to one count a year later. In July 2014, Baker was charged with second-degree assault in Hudson. He pleaded guilty and received a fine just days before Christmas 2015.
