ICE: Brazilian illegal immigrant arrested for attempted murder in Massachusetts

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested a Brazilian national who was in the country illegally and charged him with several crimes, including attempted murder, in Massachusetts.

ICE announced in a press release that 33-year-old Evandro Ribeiro-Rosa was arrested by Boston's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) agency in Worcester District Court on August 12.

Worcester police arrested Ribeiro-Rosa on July 16 and charged him with attempted murder, stalking, intimidation, kidnapping and two counts of criminal damage.

“Evandro Ribeiro-Rosa is alleged to have committed multiple violent crimes against a member of our community in Massachusetts,” said Todd M. Lyons, director of ERO's Boston field office. “We will not allow non-citizen criminals to continue to victimize our neighborhoods.”

Ribeiro-Rosa entered the United States illegally near Nogales, Arizona, on September 16, 2021. He was subsequently detained by Border Patrol agents, issued a summons to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge, and subsequently released.

Ribeiro-Rosa resurfaced last month after being arrested by Worcester police on charges including attempted murder and stalking.

Following his arrest, ERO filed an immigration detention request against Ribeiro-Rosa with the Worcester Police Department, but the Worcester House of Corrections denied the warrant and released him on July 23 after posting $2,500 bail.

Ribeiro-Rosa was arrested by Worcester police on August 8 on a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court. That same day, ERO Boston filed another warrant for his arrest with the police department.

He was taken into custody by deportation officers at Worcester District Court on August 12.

According to ICE, the court has released custody of Ribeiro-Rosa due to an active immigration detention. He remains in ERO custody.
