Man found guilty of aggravated assault in Carbondale

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) – A DeSoto, Illinois man has been found guilty in connection with a May incident in Carbondale.

According to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office, 36-year-old Blake A. Jennings was found guilty by a Jackson County jury of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated assault and resisting a peace officer.

On May 26, Jennings was arrested by Carbondale police.

Officers were called to 1200 E. Grand because a white male wearing a black hoodie was banging on people's doors and behaving disorderly. After further investigation, officers determined that Jennings had struck and injured another man.

Jennings, a convicted felon, was approached by police officers and ordered to stop. However, he resisted. After his arrest, police found knives on him.

The Carbondale Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office investigated. Assistant District Attorney Sophia M. Allen led the prosecution.
