Suspect in 7-Eleven shooting convicted of 2009 robbery

The man suspected of shooting a man outside a 7-Eleven in Seattle was previously sentenced to more than four years in prison for a brutal robbery in 2009, court documents show.

A 36-year-old man was recently arrested in connection with a murder in Seattle's Sand Point neighborhood. He is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

On Tuesday, August 13, video surveillance recorded an incident involving three people that led to the fatal shooting.

According to witnesses, the victim chased a suspicious woman after she said, “You took my phone.” The victim and the woman then ran to the back of the building behind the dumpster area.

Witnesses said they heard no signs of a verbal or physical altercation. A man then got out of a silver BMW and walked behind the dumpsters. Shortly afterward, a gun was heard and the man apparently stashed a gun in a shoulder bag, court documents say.

Witnesses claimed they heard one of the suspects shouting “Let's go, let's go!” as the man and woman got into the BMW and sped away.

The victim was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police tracked down the suspect's BMW in Tacoma and found that it had recently been sold to a man in exchange for his 2008 Cadillac.

A few hours later, Pierce County officers noticed an unidentified blue Cadillac in an area known for drug trafficking. The male suspect was tracked down and arrested after officers recognized him from a bulletin.

In an interview with investigators, the suspect claimed he heard the victim “trying to kill” the woman he was chasing and saw him put his hands on her throat. He then “heard a bang” and ran away, court documents say.

According to police, the suspect has an extensive criminal history, including a conviction for first-degree robbery in 2009.

According to court documents, the suspect and two of his friends beat a man, seriously injuring him and stealing his cellphone and $5. Police said the victim gave the suspects a dollar as he left a store and they followed him in a car to rob him.

During the robbery, the victim suffered several broken bones and shattered sinuses, requiring surgery to have four metal plates inserted into his face.

The public prosecutor's office expects that a decision on the charges will be made later this week.
