Stephen Curry takes legal action to protect viral Olympic cellie

Stephen Curry recently trademarked the phrase “Nuit. Nuit.”, which means “night. night” in French. Curry's signature “night. night” expression involves him posing by holding his hands together and tilting his head toward his hands. The Golden State Warriors star typically strikes this pose when he's sure the game is over. At the 2024 Olympics, Curry struck the same pose in the gold medal game against France.

Team USA eventually won gold after Curry struck his “Night. Night” pose. The French phrase “Nuit. Nuit” then became a trend after Filipino designer Mike Fogg designed a custom shirt for the sniper legend. Curry then took a photo of himself wearing the custom shirt and holding his gold medal. Several days after donning the shirt, the Warriors star trademarked the French phrase.

Darren Rovell of Cllct provided further details on the legal action Curry has taken:

“Steph Curry's company SC30 has filed to trademark the phrase “Nuit. Nuit,” which he and his team cleverly introduced after Curry helped the U.S. team defeat France in the men's basketball gold medal game at the Paris Olympics earlier this month. Curry filed to trademark the phrase in Europe on Aug. 14 and in the United States on Aug. 19. The U.S. filing states that the intention is to use the phrase on all clothing. Curry will benefit from being the first to file the phrase, rather than having to wait in line behind someone else.”

For the first time in his legendary career, Stephen Curry is an Olympic champion. It was the first and likely last time the world saw Curry compete for the US team at the Olympics. While his Olympic run may be short-lived, the Golden State Warriors star made the most of it.

Although LeBron James was crowned MVP, Curry proved to be a worthy candidate. During their gold medal game against France, Steph carried the team's scoring load, scoring 24 points, all of which came from long range. He hit an efficient 66.6% of his long range shots that night and proved to the world why he is the best shooter of all time.

Late in the game, Curry hit a difficult three-pointer over double coverage. After sinking the shot, he struck the “goodnight” pose and extended the lead to 96-87 with just over 30 seconds left in the game. His legendary celebration against France meant he had won the game for Team USA.
