DuBois man sent to state prison for burglary and theft – GantNews.com

CLEARFIELD – A DuBois man will serve a prison sentence in state prison for breaking into a home and stealing several firearms.

Rhett Donavan Eisman, 32, pleaded guilty to theft and burglary during court on Monday. Judge Paul E. Cherry sentenced him to one to three years in prison.

According to the affidavit, the victim stated that he and his father were away from the Sandy Township apartment for about three hours on February 21. When they returned, he noticed that the firearms were missing.

The victim showed officers that someone had opened a filing cabinet and scattered a box of old check slips around the room.

A Remington flintlock long rifle that had been near the cabinet was missing, as was some black powder.

A Winchester rifle and a single-shot air rifle, which were located in another room, were also missing.

While he was away, a neighbor noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in front of the victim's house. She took photos of the vehicle, a silver Jeep.

She saw two men get out of the Jeep and was able to describe them. A third man remained in the vehicle, she told investigators.

The next day, the Jeep registered to Eisman was spotted in Sandy Township. Officers followed it and observed it driving erratically. They could see three long guns in the front back seat.

Eventually, Eisman and a woman in the vehicle were arrested and the vehicle was towed to the police parking lot.

When questioned by police, Eisman admitted that he drove to the property, entered it and took the weapons, numerous documents and black powder. He also confessed to stealing a chainsaw from the house.

Eisman only wanted to give the first names of the other people involved in the break-in and “stated that he took responsibility for the crime,” the criminal complaint states.

The total value of the stolen items was $1,650.
