New details emerge as testimony begins in Seven Deadly Sins murder trial | News

On Tuesday, gruesome details emerged in the Seven Deadly Sins case as testimony began.

Frederic Rodgers is one of two men accused of murdering seven people in Valhermoso Springs in June 2020.

After three days of jury selection, the state brought in a cart full of evidence boxes stacked several feet high for the first day of the trial. They are demanding the death penalty for Rogers.

The defense itself declared Rogers guilty, but argued that his life had value even in prison.

The state called four witnesses to the stand. The first witness was a neighbor who called 911 after hearing an alarming number of gunshots coming from the Talucah Road home. She told the court she had never been to the home but often heard gunshots coming from the house.

Next up were two former Morgan County Sheriff's Office employees who witnessed the June 4 incident.

The state played body camera footage from one of the officers, which showed several dead victims and partial fires in the house.

Next, the state called Madison County investigator Jacob Fanning to the stand. Fanning had taken the crime scene photos in 2020.

The state made Fanning explain each photo shown and provide details about where the photos were taken and the severity of the victims' injuries. Fanning admitted that there were multiple shell casings on each victim.

Many of the victims had burn marks on and around them. Fanning discovered a lighter and a gasoline can on the floor of the house.

The trial will continue on Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. The defense says autopsy photos are expected to be shown.
