The dark crime drama will be expanded by six more episodes

The dark comedy Obituary, which was filmed in Ireland and can be seen on Hulu, is getting a second season

After being broadcast on RTE in Ireland last September, all six episodes of the darkly comic crime drama obituary found its way to the Hulu streaming service in November. Now Variety reports that obituary Season 2 has been given the green light and is expected to consist of six episodes like its predecessor.

Written by Ray Lawlor (Le Ceangal) and directed by John Hayes (Murders in Dublin) and Oonagh Kearney (Vardy vs Rooney), obituary has the following summary: 24-year-old Elvira Clancy is feeling a little unfulfilled, even though she loves her new job as an obituary writer. But when her newspaper runs into trouble and her boss cuts her salary, she's paid per obituary overnight. When she “accidentally” kills a bad guy in town, she discovers she may have a previously unrecognized bloodlust!

She enjoys killing the town's unpleasant residents using increasingly sophisticated methods and making them look like accidents. Track. Kill. Publish. Repeat. Unfortunately, her plans are thwarted – the paper hires a suspicious new crime correspondent, and she's really, really taken with him…

Nell Green produced the first season with APC Studios and Magamedia. Laurent Boissel and Paddy Hayes served as executive producers. Lawlor has obituary as “an entertaining, dark drama that proudly allows me to bring some of the wit and characters I encounter every day in my hometown of Castlebar into Irish living rooms.” Lawlor is currently writing the script for season 2, with APC Studios and Magamedia continuing to be involved and Hulu contributing towards financing.

The main role in the show is played by Siobhán Cullen, who previously played The dry, Origin, The long reputation, PaulaAnd awl. Cullen is supported in the cast by Michael Smiley (Luther) as Elvira's boss Ward Clancy, Ronan Raftery (Gangs of London) as crime reporter Emerson Stafford, Danielle Galligan (The great) as Mallory Markum and David Ganly (Moon Knight) as Hughie Burns. Also on the cast list are Michael Hough (Murdoch crime novels), Noni Stapleton (Harry Wild), Conan Sweeney (Suffocation), Lalor Roddy (The Devil's Door), Dagmar Döring (Finding joy) and newcomer Éabha Moore.
