Child rescued after SWAT responds to domestic violence incident | News

According to the caller, Burns had threatened to kill the entire family, had access to weapons and vowed not to return to prison.

When officers arrived, they found the caller and another family member near the road. They quickly learned that there was an 11-year-old child in the house who was sleeping and potentially in great danger.

Given the severity of the situation, the Coweta County SWAT team and Criminal Investigation Division were immediately mobilized. The Newnan Police Department SWAT team and the Fulton County Police Department SWAT team were requested for additional assistance.

After a wait, SWAT officers were able to enter the house, find the 11-year-old child, and rescue him. He was unharmed. The child was immediately handed over to a family member outside the house.

After the rescue, SWAT officers began tactical negotiations with Burns, who eventually surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody.

Burns was taken to the Coweta County Jail where he was charged with aggravated assault and simple domestic violence. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the incident.
